Our role was not to impose, but to encourage independent thinking, reflection, and self-discovery. We provided the children with an open and interactive atmosphere, where they felt free to ask questions, express themselves, and speak their mind.
Instead of preaching values to the children, we encouraged them to understand and embrace values wholeheartedly. For instance, we did not simply tell them “Lying is not good” or “You should not steal”. Rather, we facilitated guided discussions where we would explore and understand the consequences of such actions in real-life scenarios.
The children were explained the ‘why’ behind every activity in their curriculum. Nothing was forced upon them. Instead, they were happy to be self-responsible.
